National Poem Writing Month 2021: Poem xiv: Name

Inspired by … write a poem that delves into the meaning of your first or last name…

“Sangbad” though not a word without meaning but a name, queer and weird, a man can have. There are nothing mysterious facts belongs to the first name of mine. It’s very straight and clear. In Bengali it means “message”. In English it means “news”–the one every one look for specially the old lonely ones.

My name is the “truth”, onus. Before the time the human haven’t started speaking; they used to gesture or screech and howl as the historians and researchers of the human science says. I have been there through my name.

My name is the “reason” causing the Troy to fall. The poor Trojans never came to knew the wooden horse that they were gifted full of Roman soldiers. And at night they came out and burn the city down.

My name is the “power” moving the world from whence few people gather the knowledge to manipulate a information and curb it to their advantages. Nowadays line has blurred between truth and lie, rumors and fact, just because I am there through my name.

My name make me feel like those hermits from ancient ages who used to live the present but know all of the past and future. Sangbad can also mean the time–past, present and future–choice is all up to who ruminates on my name or want to.

(One day not today I will ruminate on my last name meaning “friend”.)
