National Poem Writing Month 2018 Day#27: Today,

following Lauren Hunter’s practice of relying on tarot cards to generate ideas for poems, we challenge you to pick a card (any card), and then to write a poem inspired either by the card or by the images or ideas that are associated with it.

My selection is Number 9 card of Hermit

every night

                my soul ache

to talk to someone     to let the poison out     to burn the poems

and to warm    my hand    in that fire

madness you can say

as the idea stands    at the threshold

I show the light    coming from it    to be forecast    on the wall    of my room

atonement

I feel    when the words    get arrested

in the pages

giving birth to a poem    just a poem, nothing else

looking inside     I find me    in a robe    holding the lantern

flame is the poem

poem that’s just arrangement of words    nothing else
